Hello and welcome to our first blog
post. Our intention for putting up this blog is to provide our community with a
more in depth look at the work that we do and poverty law issues facing the
client’s that we serve. But first we want to let you know a little bit about
who we are.
We have 10 staff serving the poverty
law needs of people living with poverty in Mississauga. This includes our
Executive Director, 4 lawyers, 3 community legal workers, an office coordinator,
and receptionist. We are one of 77 legal clinics that provide poverty law
services in Ontario through our funder Legal Aid Ontario.
Our clinic offers free legal advice and representation in
housing law, social assistance and disability law, worker’s compensation law,
some immigration law, and consumer law.
MCLS reflects the community that we
serve with almost half of the staff being visible minorities offering services
in Italian, German, Hindi, Punjabi, Gujarati, and we have the capability to
provide interpretation in many more languages using our language line. Client’s
who require interpretation are encouraged to ask the receptionist who can then
return your call with an interpreter and offer assistance.
